Guwahati: Names of several former ministers, MLAs and top officials, among others, have reportedly been revealed by Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) chairman Rakesh Paul during police interrogation.
Paul, who was remanded in 14 days of police custody by a special court here on Saturday after being arrested a day earlier, has reportedly revealed names of about 300 people involved in the ‘job racket’ in APSC.
These names include former ministers, MLAs and several top officials of the state.
Police have also been conducting raids at residences and other locations owned by Paul and his family members.
Investigating Officer and Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police Surjeet Singh Panesar said incriminating documents, including answer scripts of APSC conducted examination, had been recovered during the raids.
Panesar, who had led the Dibrugarh Police team that had arrested Paul, appealed to the public to share with the police any information on APSC corruption involving Rakesh Paul given the seriousness of the case.
Paul was arrested here on November 4 by a team of Dibrugarh Police on the basis of evidence collected following the arrest of an assistant engineer, Nabakanta Patir, in Dibrugarh last month.
Patir was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from an APSC job aspirant.
His arrest had also led to the apprehension of the PSO of an APSC member, with police also being on the look for the APSC member, Samedur Rahman, who is currently absconding.
